"The Great Locomotive Chase" is a great piece for a young band. Based on historical events, this concert piece will allow you to work correlate your band concert with your history teacher's Civil War units.

Technical Notes: This composition for concert band is based on a fascinating event in American history. The piece was composed in the fall of 1999 for the Tapp Middle School Concert Band under the direction of Erin Cole, The work is Dedicated to the Tapp Middle School Band in commemoration of their performance at the university of Georgia in December of the same year. Also included is four pages of history and background on the Great Locomotive Chase. This information would be great to study in a history class and play the piece in band.
The keyboard percussion part has been labeled as mallet percussion and includes marimba, optional xylophone, chimes, and optional bells. The first percussion part includes snare drum, bass drum, and hi-hat cymbal. The second percussion part includes suspended cymbal, wind chimes, anvil or optional brake drum, crash cymbal, triangle, train whistle, and cabasa.
