Bari is the top of the line brand for synthetic reeds. Synthetic reeds like these will usually last several times longer than traditional reeds. They can still be chipped or cracked, but they will not wear out like traditional cane. The reeds are formulated to sound as similar to cane reeds as possible, but there is a difference. Because of this, we do not recommend synthetic reeds for most concert band situations. We do however recommend these reeds for use in marching band or jazz band where the greater stability of the synthetic reed is a greater asset. Reeds can not be returned.

Reeds are typically available in strengths of 1 through 5 (some brands label their reeds as Soft, Medium Soft, ... through Hard). In general, the lower the number, the easier it is to play most notes. The down side, is that the lower number reeds just don't sound as nice, and make it harder to hit high notes.

As a general rule, we recommend reeds with a strength of 2 (Soft) for people just getting started, and strength 2 1/2 (Medium Soft) for people who have played for a year (less time if they take lessons). The harder reeds should only be used after using the next softer size of reed for six months to a year, or at the recommendation of a private instructor or band director.

"Bosco and Kitty's Piano Magic" introduces the very young child to the basic notion that musical sounds can be high or low, soft or loud, or combined in various ways. These musical concepts are explored via the books use of the "Twins" and "Triplets" - groups of two and three black keys - to develop the tactile, aural, and visual awareness prerequisite to all further music learning. With this book, children have endless opportunities to think in motion, as they deal with several concepts simultaneously. The book encourages the child to develop new story lines with Bosco and Kitty's "Twins" and "Triplets" as well as to be creative while having a load of fun. This is a great beginning for introducing the concepts of music to the young child through the use of colorful illustrations, wonderful characters and even a narrated storyline on an audio CD included with the book.

Please note that this book is not a songbook, but a story book that introduces a young child to basic musical concepts.
